Young Readers Outreach is proud to stand with our military community: service members, veterans, and the families who serve right alongside them. Your gently loved, donated books help us show that support in the most practical, human way by sending stories where they’re needed most.

Through our partnership with Operation Paperback and its volunteer corner, your donated books are traveling onto ships and training posts, into unit day rooms and tiny community centers overseas, and straight to living rooms where families learn the rhythm of deployments.

On base and at sea, donated books stock unit libraries so service members can read between watches, during recovery time, or on a rare quiet evening. In squadron book clubs, leadership titles such as Grit or Leading Change spark real conversations about resilience, teamwork, and growth. Test prep guides and career resources help troops study for the ASVAB or the GRE, or work toward certifications in fields like cybersecurity and computer science. These resources open doors for life during and after service.

Children’s books do quiet magic too. At remote posts, including small NATO sites, kid friendly reads anchor tiny libraries and homeschool corners so military kids can learn in English and feel a bit more at home. Age appropriate graphic novels, early readers, and activity books turn long afternoons into shared moments of discovery.

And then, there are the morale boosters: mysteries, sci fi and fantasy, outdoors and adventure, military history, and favorites from the Commandant’s Reading List. These books restore perspective, build leadership, and remind us why courage and curiosity matter.
